Fortnite developer allows NFTs in video games

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Fortnite and CEO of Epic Games, said on Twitter that he has no intention of banning games that use blockchain or NFTs from his digital store.

Developers and players can decide for themselves.

The Epic Games store will not stop offering games that use non-fungible tokens. Sweeney felt inclined to respond to a question because Minecraft made the opposite sound this week. Minecraft wants NFTs to play no role at all in the gaming experience.

“Developers should be free to decide how they build their games, and you should be free to decide whether to play them. I don’t think stores and operating system makers should interfere by forcing their opinion on others. We are not going to do that.,” said Sweeney.

In April, Epic Games announced that it planned to venture into the metaverse with a $2 billion fundraising.

Sweeney stated at that time, “As we reimagine the future of entertainment and play, we need partners who share our vision. We have found this in our partnership with Sony and KIRKBI.”
