The city of Seoul will introduce a blockchain-based administrative service in November of this year. The city will develop a cryptocurrency in collaboration with local BNK Busan Bank. Last year in October, the major of Seoul Park Won-Soon announced a five-year plan to invest $108 million to develop Seoul as a smart city powered by blockchain. Government has set November as the deadline for the blockchain point system to roll out. According to the blueprint, citizens of Seoul will receive S-coins for using public service, which includes paying taxes, participating in opinion polls. Citizens then will able to redeem those coins to rewards.

Seoul’s point system will be integrated with Zeropay

Seoul’s point system will be integrated with Zeropay; a government-sponsored QR-code-enabled network established last year. It allows consumers to pay for goods and services using their phones and does not require merchants commissions. Seoul’s government has also announced a blockchain service for submitting qualifications without paper documents. It will help citizens to use public facilities with digital authentication.

Seoul has also initiated a blockchain service that would allow part-time and temporary workers to sign up with companies. It will help employers to keep track of their work histories, and maintain timesheets. This blockchain service will also help people to register for the county’s four major social insurance programs.

Smart healthcare, donation management, and online certificate verification are among other services that government there is working on to enroll in the coming year.
