Jed Rakoff, the United States Federal District Judge, is struck in a dilemma on whether he should release a 61-year old Silk Road dealer following the recent outbreak of Coronavirus in prison.

Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in the Federal prison, the judge is facing a difficult time in deciding what to do about the prisoners.

According to a report, the prisoner, Hugh Haney, is serving his sentence after he couldn’t explain how and where he obtained $19 Million worth in Bitcoin.

Further information about the outbreak:

The judge, Jed Rakoff (1) has given some time after a request of bail by the dealer on the 8th of April. The lawyer who is representing Hugh is Martin Cohen. He made an argument that the prisoner would face a life or death situation if he is not released as the mortality rate of COVID-19 is high. Three of the inmates have currently tested positive as fear is gripping in the minds of other prisoners. Even though the attorney office has not granted previous bails to any other inmates in a situation like this, it’s worth noting that Haney does not suffer from any health conditions and could prove fatal to Coronavirus.
