A hacker attacked a researcher scholar’s system in Lucknow by ransomware. Victim of the ransomware attack refused to disclose his identity. He lodged the FIR about the hack on 3rd September. According to a Timesofindia report, the victim was receiving unsolicited emails from a long time, and curiosity got the best out of him as he decided to open the link in the email which caused the ransomware to attack his system.

Later the hacker contacted the victim by email and asked him to pay $1200 in BTC to gain access to his data on his system. An officer at Cyber Cell informed that they are trying to trace the hacker’s email.

Ransomware attacks not only in India but all over the world are rapidly increasing. Last month two schools in New York were attacked by ransomware, and one of them had to pay $88,000 in BTC. Earlier in India, a 5-star hotel and a private eye hospital were targeted by hackers using ransomware and cyber police both the time failed to get any breakthrough.
