In celebration of DogeDay, a leading tech-focused e-retailer in North America, Newegg announced that the company will now accept meme-based cryptocurrency Dogecoin as an official payment method. Sr. brand manager at Newegg, Andrew Choi, said, “The excitement and momentum around cryptocurrency are undeniable, and the recent surge in Dogecoin value underscores the need to make it easier for customers to make purchases with this popular cryptocurrency.”

Andrew Choi added, “We’re committed to making it easy for our customers to shop however works best for them, and that means letting them complete transactions with the payment method that suits them best. To that end, we’re happy to give Dogecoin fans an easy way to shop online for tech.” Newegg has been crypto-friendly in the past as well. In 2014, the tech-focused e-retailer giant began to accept Bitcoin for payments. Before the official announcement, Newegg had teased about accepting meme-based cryptocurrency for payments on Twitter.
Dogecoin continues to get mainstream attention.
Earlier this week, Dogecoin’s price surged all the way to $0.40, making it the sixth-largest cryptocurrency with a market cap of $50 billion. Wall Street veteran and Galaxy Digital founder Mike Novogratz compared the Dogecoin rally to the GameStop frenzy earlier this year on Wall Street. In his interview with Bloomberg Markets, Novogratz said that there’s a lot of “frothiness” within the “altcoin” market. Earlier, billionaire Mark Cuban announced Dogecoin payments for tickets and merchandise for his NBA team – the Dallas Mavericks. Cuban also provided an update on how the Dogecoin initiative is going on his Twitter account, indicating that the Mavs have sold “more than 122k DOGE in merchandise.”
