Lancashire Cricket teams up with TIXnGO to offer blockchain mobile tickets

According to The Ticketing Business report, Lancashire will activate mobile tickets for all domestic and international matches that will be played in Old Trafford in 2020. The cricket club has teamed up with TIXnGO, a blockchain mobile ticketing platform.

The technology was successfully tested in 2019.

Lancashire Cricket’s head of ticketing and digital systems, Jonathon Nuttall, said that he is delighted that the club has become the first organization to use new blockchain secure mobile tickets technology, as well as introducing and developing a number of further enhancements to their ticketing options at Emirates Old Trafford. He noted that during the 2019 season, over 80% of tickets bought at Emirates Old Trafford were online as compared to just 50% in 2018.

“Blockchain technology solves several ticketing issues.”

David Hornby, UK managing director of SecuTix, with which Lancashire Cricket has been working for 18 months, said that the blockchain technology addresses many of the ticketing issues that both sports organizations and fans alike face. He added that TIXnGO creates an encrypted ticket for smartphones that is completely traceable, removes the risk of counterfeit tickets, and simplifies the process of transferring or reselling tickets for the customer.
