Digital era is bringing some massive changes with it in our day-to-day lives, and people are moving online for everything. A recent trend in the world has seen people taking polls for making decisions in their life or for a collective betterment.
To help people keep up with this latest trend, Kaspersky business incubator launched a blockchain-based voting platform known as Polys. From the mid of 2018 till mid-2019, over 660 voting sessions took place on the platform. People participate in social media and other voting contests, and choose the best icecream flavor or select their favorite car out of the given options. This is a fast and convenient way of making decisions, but when it comes to making sure the voting process is secure and anonymous, not every e-voting platform can be trusted with this.
Polys introduced a blockchain-based online voting platform to overcome these challenges. Since March 2018, 660 polls were created on the platform where 26,400 people took part. The participants who took part spoke 34 languages with the top 3 being English(33%), Russia(32%) and Spanish(7%). This method of voting was also used in higher educational institutions for making choices of the student councils, unions, and associations. About 5% of voting sessions were considered in municipals and neighborhoods. They used it to either choose the municipal head or to vote for some major changes that were needed in the area.
As compared to other lesser-known areas of online voting, Polys covers a wide range of subjects such as choosing the right marketing campaign for the company to different aspects of your daily life like picking up a profile picture for the online community. Online voting is easy to organize, and with the help of blockchain, it has become easy to use, and the transparency helps to keep things fair.
