Job openings indicate Mastercard might be developing its crypto wallet

Mastercard recently posted three job openings on its website; all three jobs are related to blockchain and cryptocurrency wallets. This suggests that the company is looking to develop its own crypto wallet. Mastercard officially has not confirmed anything yet. Job openings on the website are of senior-level positions including vice president in blockchain product management, and two directors for product development & innovation – blockchain solutions architect and product management – cryptocurrency/wallets.

Two of the job description clearly states, “wallet solutions.” It also says that new employees will “work with a cross-functional team comprising of Franchise, Compliance, Regulation, Products, Labs, Regions, and Technology to develop new products and solutions. The multinational financial service company is looking to hire the core team, which will lead the company’s blockchain project.

Other than these three senior-level jobs, the credit card company is also looking to hire blockchain engineers and analysts with blockchain knowledge. The company has always been an advocate for blockchain use, in 2017 it announced that it was opening its blockchain platform to merchants and banks to experiment with a new payment network.

Mastercard is one of the members of the Libra association; the cryptocurrency of social media giant Facebook. According to industry insiders, Mastercard might be looking to create an alternative wallet solution to that of Facebook’s Calibra. These job openings suggest that the billion-dollar company is up to something and might officially announce about its project soon.
