European Union Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager in a press release talked about how Facebook Inc’s Libra digital currency will be in focus of the antitrust and financial regulators in future.
Vestager informed the reporters that Libra will have their interest and that the European Union has already sent out questionnaires to be filled to gather more information on the digital currency. The EU is trying to understand and study how Libra will function and how Facebook is planning to form a link between the data from the social network.
Along with the EU, European data protection authorities are also keeping a check on the working of Libra. Facebook didn’t respond to the request to comment on the statement, but they’ve mentioned in the past that they will satisfy all regulators, and only then the currency will be launched.
