Kazakhstan authorities are considering building a nuclear power plant to fight the energy gap caused by the cryptocurrency mining boom.

China-based bitcoin mining hub Bitmain has launched the world’s largest bitcoin mining facility in Rockdale, Texas. The company completed the project with Rockdale Municipal Development District and Canadian technology firm DMG Blockchain Solutions. Bitmain promised to boost the local economy Rockdale, which is located in Milam County, east of Austin, in the US.

The facility is developed to a 25MW capacity, with a 50MW facility remaining under construction. The farm is built on a 33,000-acre facility. According to the press release, it can expand to a capacity of over 300MW in the future.

The Aluminum Company of America owns the site on which the farm is built, and previously, it served as the location for a smelter. Clinton Brown, Rockdale Lead Project Manager for Bitmain, said that they are excited to launch this facility, which is significant to Bitmain’s global expansion plans. The stable and efficient energy resources in Texas are fundamental to the inevitable scale of growth for the cryptocurrency mining industry, he added.

Sheldon Bennett, COO of DMG, said that this mining facility makes as a significant milestone in the development of the mining farm industry. He added that they are proud to partner with Bitmain, which is the leading innovator in this sector.
