American Cancer Society to accept bitcoin donations via BitPay

The non-profit organization, American Cancer Society, is now accepting donations in bitcoin through BitPay. The ACS is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer.

American Cancer Society announced to accept donations in bitcoins through BitPay. BitPay claims that it has processed over $50 million in donations since 2017 with partners such as the Tony Hawk Foundation and the American Red Cross.

BitPay had blocked Hong Kong Free Press Funds.

Even though BitPay claims to be the helping hand for charitable organizations in many countries, it ran into trouble in Hong Kong earlier this for blocking funds of HKFP. Tom Grundy had complained that BitPay refused to transfer their donations without giving any good reasons. After BitPay declined to transfer the funds, Hong Kong Free Press changed its payment processor to BTC Pay. Founder and Editor-in-chief of crowdfunded media outlet, Tom Grundy had accused BitPay of charging very high fees and having horrible customer service.

American Cancer Society is one of the largest volunteer health organizations.

The American Society was founded in 1913 under the name of “American Society for the Control of Cancer,” by ten physicians and five businessmen. It is one of the oldest and largest volunteer health organizations in the world. ACS exec Brant Woodward told CoinDesk that cancer affects people from all walks of life, so it is not surprising that they draw support from a broad cross-section of donors. He further added that their mission is urgent, and to accomplish it, they need to engage donors where they are.
