The famous hacking group TheDarkOverlord are claiming to have the stolen confidential data connected with the 2011 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center as reported by Motherboard.

TheDarkOverlord group posted on their official Twitter account that they have stolen thousands of documents from insurance companies such as Hiscox Syndicates, Lloyds of London and Silverstein Properties. The group is asking for a ransom and is threatening to release all the stolen content which according to them will answer the conspiracy theories relating to the 9/11 attack if their demand is not met.

The hack was confirmed by a spokesperson for Hiscox Group who stated that the hacking group was able to access the confidential data of an advisory law firm and the data was most likely was related to litigations related to the 9/11 attack.

The spokesperson spoke to Motherboard and stated that the systems of the law firm were not connected to their (Hiscox’s) IT infrastructure and thus their own systems were not affected by the hack. The advisory law firm was handing one of the cases for Hiscox and other insurers which was related to litigation arising from the 9/11 attack which was most likely stolen during the hack.

The hacking group had stated various law firms, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transport Security Administration in a number of letters and emails and released a link to an archived file which contained the data they had stolen. The data is in an encrypted format and the hackers have threatened to release the data if the amount of ransom is not made to them in Bitcoin.

The DarkOverlord hacking group is threatening various individuals and companies whose names are included in the data demanding them to make the ransom payment in bitcoin if they want to get their names excluded from the documents.

The hackers also stated that:

If you continue to fail us, we’ll escalate these releases by releasing the keys, each time a Layer is opened, a new wave of liability will fall upon you.
